Few questions – interview with death metal band from Chile - UTTERTOMB.

Answered SS.

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play , etc.?

SS: First of all, we appreciate the interview, thanks. Well, Uttertomb was founded at the very end of 2009 under the name of "Ultratomb", but we never released something until 2011, just a promo Cd-R with the old name, and the new one also. In 2012 we released the first EP "Necrocentrism" with Apocalyptic Prods., and then after a split with Death Vomit (Chl) called "Coagulation of Pest" in 2013, and a EP in 2016 called "Sempiternal" by Pulverised Recs., we released our new EP this year as a continuation and a re-recording for personal reasons called "Necrocentrism: The Necrocentrist".

What we play?...Necrological Death Metal.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

SS: This new EP was recorded at Dm6 Studios (Slaughtbbath, Force of Darkness, Athanatos, Procession, Atomicide, etc) with Pablo Clares on the knobs. He was in charge of everything with this release. The conditions were really good, nice ambient & environment through the whole process, but we had some problems with our bassist, personal issues.

How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

SS: There's a Southamerican CD edition under Apocalyptic Prods. 1000 copies, the same with Pulverised, 1000 CDs. Also there's a tape edition through Caligari Recs., 200 copies and 500 12" vinyls through Chaos Recs. That's it...

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal
with?

SS: I am the reponsible for the lyrics. They are created all of them under a personal trance state at the same time mostly with the creation of the riffs. For me there has to be a correlation between what the lyrics says and how it sounds, like a mental picture of what the atmosphere told through the lyrics must sound...The topics about our lyrics deals with the mystery of death and darkness, from the physical, mental, atmospherical, superstitious and spiritual point of view.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

SS: The logo was created by Artetreum, a chilean missing artist, he was really impressing on all his works. About the graphics all of them are guided by us, but different guys help us with the technical design. On social networks we think that it's a good way for publishing news and to stay in contact with some friends and maniacs worldwide, but that's it, nothing else. Everything besides that, the hype, the trends, the innecesary commentaries, the guys bitching behind a screen and all that virtual world it's for miserable cunts, so we don't support all the virtual world and social media acts at all...Just for the right and minimal use.

Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

SS: Talking about the album I think you refer to Pulverised Recs. so we choose them at first because we have a good deal and communication with Roy, really great guy, serious and compromised with all their releases. We have to say that we are completely satisfied with Pulverised in every aspect. Nothing bad to say...

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

SS: Idolise for me personally it's a really strong word, but taking off the main idea I can say there's a lot of bands that influenced me and the rest of the guys in Uttertomb. Those bands are Old Funeral (Nor), Sadistic Intent, Incantation, Pentagram (Chl), Paradise Lost, Autopsy, Parabellum, Karnarium, Mortem (Per), Asphyx, Pentacle, Grave Miasma, Deströyer 666, some old Heavy Metal Bands, Punk and Post-Punk stuff, Non-metal dark music, atmospheric and classical music too. The musical inspiration source comes from that kind of music, but the inspiration also comes from experiences, thoughts on other mental states, drugs, books, etc.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

SS: Not yet, we are really bad in promotion and that kind of stuff. It's not our idea to reach all the labels and people, but we've had help by some friends to do that in our lack of it. Now I'm understanding how it works all of this...About the response it has been divided I think, some guys prefer the new EP, others the old one (2012), but the most important it's that we have to be in agreement with the result.

How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether its (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

SS: Through our whole process, I think we've played like 20 times maybe. Personally I don't have preference for clubs or festival, I just look up to gigs where all the crowd have raw behaviours and understand what we are doing and all the bands in the gig instead of drinking and partying, the most important thing it's the music of course. We have talked between us in Uttertomb that the best performance was the last year supporting Bölzer and Grave Miasma in Santiago, very good sound, atmosphere, response and experience in all the ways.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

SS: We have to record now a split with Evil Spectrum, to be released this year, and of course we have to finish our debut LP until we get satisfied with the composition results about it, it must be something beyond our expectations and ambitions with it. My aim with Uttertomb, the reason to exist, it's nothing else but to musicalize the idea and concept of Death, to give an approach of it through Metal. Something personal and not at the same time...

How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information? Thanx for the interview.

SS: Our contact is uttertomb.dm@gmail.com. People who wants to trade/buy merch, bookings and talk about Metal, death and ideas get in touch, no fans please...Thanks again for the inquisition.

EMBRACE THE DEATH.
